GALLANT PART

PLAYED BY ROYAL MARINES IN ATTACK ON MADAGASCAR. NIGHT DASH THROUGH MINED HARBOUR. LONDON, May 13. It is now made known that a most effective part was played by a force of 50 Royal Marines in the attack on the naval base of Diego Suarez. Making a night dash through the heavily-mined harbour, exposed to the full fire of ships and batteries, the marines were able to get in behind the harbour defences. This exploit led to the collapse of the Vichy resistance. The Free French National Committee is to share in the administration of liberated French territory in Madagascar.
