CARTERTON

LAW & ORDER — I MEETING OF UNIT. (“Times-Age” Special.) A meeting of the Carterton Law and Order Unit of the E.P.S. organisation was held in the Courthouse last evening, Constable Williams presiding. Thirteen members were present ana apologies were received from three members. The chairman reported that a list of the personnel of the unit had been supplied to the secretary of the General Committee, Mr P. A. Cole, in order to prevent overlapping. Minor matters were attended to. Patriotic Effort. The Parkvale Hall should be well patronised on Saturday night when the first of a series of fortnightly dances and euchre tournaments will be held in aid of the Patriotic Funds. Mrs V. J. Ashton’s Orchestra will provide the music. Good prizes will be given for the euchre tournament and supper will be provided. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs A. H. Ray, who have been staying with the former’s mother at Belvedere, returned to Auckland yesterday. Mr Ray will enter a flying base on Friday. Mr A. P. Roydhouse, of Dunedin,, is a visitor to Carterton. Women’s Division, The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Provincial Council of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union will be held at Masterton next Wednesday. Lady Guard. Attached to the Woodville-Welling-ton mail train yesterday, afternoon was a lady ticket examiner. She was smartly dressed in a navy blue costume and wore a neat cap with the letters N.Z.R. thereon. Football. The Carterton team to play Masterton at Rugby Park on Saturday next, will be chosen from the following: — Lenihan, Hemi, Groube, Spooner, Rayner, Humphries, Staples, Berry, Quinn, Aplin, Parker (2), W. Smith, Waterson, Catt (2), Goodin (2), Workman, Trapp and Phillips. The team is to assemble at Memorial Square at 1.30 p.m. REGENT THEATRE “DULCY.” Tonight’s programme will be headed by the famous comedy hit, “Dulcy,” featuring Ann Sothern, lan Hunter and Billie Burke.
