- MILITARY CONCERT ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. ("Times- Age” Special.) A military concert was held in the Town Hall on Monday night in _ aid of the funds of the Red Cross Society. Every available seat in the hall was occupied. The concert opened with a saxophone solo by Lieut. Chrisp. Corporal Max Smith, who is well known in Eketahuna, was in his usual good voice and sang ‘‘Simon the Cellarer and “Live for England.” Sketches greatly enjoyed by the audience were as follow:—“Bar Door,” "Glass of Water,” “Telegrams,” “Looks” and “To a Miniature.” Other items were given by Trooper Russ, Sgt. Lawrence, Pte. Fulbrooke, Driver Gemmcl and Sgt. Burgess. Sgt. Fernie proved himself to be a master of the piano and played several items. Sgt. Fernie was conductor of the Centennial Cnoir and Musical Director of the Eucharistic Congress and his playing was a musical treat. The concert concluded with choruses, songs and hakas by Maoris. The audience was greatly stirred by this performance and the Maoris were encored several times. The performers were entertained at supper by the Red Cross Society’s Committee. Personal Items. Mrs A. Small, Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs Houlbrooke, Alfredton Road. Mr and Mrs John McLean, Gisborne, are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. Rowden, Stanley Street. Mrs C. E. Robbie, Haunui, is staying with her daughter, Mrs Richardson. Messrs G. H. Chapman and W. Duffill spent a week at Turangi. Mr Chapman has since returned to Hokitika. Mrs B. McAlister has been notified that her brother, F. E. Mellors, of the Imperial Forces, has been awarded the M.M. for good work during the Syrian campaign. Mesdames Tildesley and Pointon, Essex Street, Masterton, have returned after having been the guests of Mrs Albretchsen, Hastwell Street. BRONCHITIS ATTACKS. Many middle-aged and elderly folk are fearing winter with its attacks of bronchitis.
