AUSTRALIAN WOOL IN U.S.A. GOOD SHIPPING MOVEMENT. AFTER-WAR POSSIBILITIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 7. The “Journal of Commerce,” Boston, states that wool consumption continues at a heavy rate on Government contracts. Buyers of domestic pulled wools have absorbed all offerings at strong prices, ranging to the ceiling level of 126 cents. The market continues steady for Australian Merinos. Spot lots are restricted, and buyers wanting further supplies are forced to await shipments. A Boston correspondent ascribes the unusual buying in Australia partly to a price advantage, because the British wool control is holding the fixed price at a low level compared with the prices obtaining in South America. The correspondent notes with satisfaction that shipping from Australia is still effecting a good movement of wool to America. American civilian consumers continue to give the highest rating in Australian fine wool, suggesting promising after-war possibilities.
