SECRECY NECESSARY

REGARDING NATIONAL WAR EFFORT OBSERVATIONS BY DEFENCE MINISTER. ARMED FORCES STRONG & WELL-EQUIPPED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Speaking in the Financial Debate today, the Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) said it was all very well for people to criticise New Zealand’s war effort, but the Government’s trouble was that it could not tell the people everything that was being done. The Dominion had never been stronger in any branch of the armed forces than it was today, and we had more transport, more machine-guns, more rifles, more anti-aircraft guns and more ammunition. There was full co-operation between the services today and they were better armed, better trained and better fitted for their tasks than ever before.
