EXTENDED PARLIAMENTARY SITTINGS SPEECHES IN FINANCIAL DEBATE. THREE BY NEW MEMBERS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The continuation of the debate on the Financial Statement in the House of Representatives yesterday afternoon and in the evening was made notable by three first speeches of new Opposition members. They were Mrs Grigg (Mid-Canterbury), Mr Sutherland (Hauraki) and Mr Acland (Temuka). All were applauded at the beginning and end of their addresses. Mrs Grigg made an excellent impression by the sincerity, conviction and dignified delivery with which she appealed for political unity by the formation of a National Government. At the end of her speech she received the congratulations of members of both -parties. Two Ministers participated in the debate, the Minister of Marketing, Mr Barclay, who announced a war costs allowance for dairy farmers, and the Minister of Labour, Mr Webb, who claimed an improvement in the handling of cargo at the ports of the Dominion. Extended sittings to enable the present 1 session to be concluded at the earliest moment were agreed to by the Government and the Opposition. The House, which met at 2.30 p.m., sat till 11.30 last night, an hour beyond the usual time. Today it will sit morning, afternoon and night to deal with the taxation measures introduced yesterday. Another sitting will take place tomorrow and if business is unfinished then, also on Monday.
