WAIRARAPA RUGBY UNION MEETING OF COMMITTEE. SEASON TO OPEN ON MAY 16. i"Times-Age” Special.) Mr K. G. Fairbrother presided over the first meeting of the newly-formed Wairarapa Rugby Union Committee held at the P. and A. Society’s Rooms, Carterton, last evening. There were also present Messrs C. E. Gray, H. K. Reid, M. J. Parker, G. Udy, F. B. Brough, R. Howard, V. Welch, M. Fly, Lieut. Henderson and the secretary, Mr H. A. McPhee. The following teams were entered in the Wairarapa competitions: Carterton, three teams, Masterton 2, Wairarapa College 2, Red Star 1, Featherston 1, Dalefield 1. The whole of the teams entered will be composed of players under 18 years of age, except one team from Carterton. After consideration, it was resolved that the teams be classed as A and B, four of the former and five of the latter. The position of the Carterton senior team is to be considered later when it is ascertained if other teams of a senior grade were available. It was resolved that the competitions.be commenced on Saturday, May 16. It was decided that the Carterton Borough Council be written to concerning the use of Carrington Park, and asking permission to make a charge for admission to games. Arrangements for the securing of the ground, which is at present usdd by Carterton School, was left in the hands of Messrs Gray, Reid and Udy. The matter of obtaining other grounds was left to the committeemen in various centres. The charge for admission to football matches was fixed at men Is, ladies 6d. Where a charge is not permitted a collection is to be taken up. No free tickets are to be issued except to players, referees controlling games, and members of the St John Ambulance. The chairman, secretary and M. J. Parker were appointed a fixtures committee, and Messrs Henson and Brough a postponement committee. The affiliation fee was fixed at £2 2s per club. It was resolved that the games be advertised in the “Wairarapa TimesAge.” The Wairarapa College wrote thanking the Union for its donation in appreciation of the services rendered by the Pipe Band and enclosing a donation for £1 Is to the Union funds. A vote of thanks was accorded to the donors. The Wairarapa Coursing Club wrote thanking the union for having granted the club use of Rugby Park for meetings. It was resolved to recommend to the New Zealand Rugby Union the reinstatement of Frank Fitzgerald from League football to Rugby. The Clareville schoolboys wrote thanking the union for past favours and applying for another football. The request was granted. The treasurer reported a credit balance of £45 18s 6d. It was resolved that the next committee meeting be held on May 20.
