MAURICEVILLE

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE MEETING OF MEMBERS. (“Times-Age” Special.). The monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at the residence of Mrs O. Nikolaison, there being a fair attendance of members. The president, Miss R. Mortensen, was in the chair. It was decided that the district depot for waste paper and all waste materials that could be utilised in connection w’ith the war effort should be controlled by the Mauriceville Institute. The depots will be located at Mr R. Palmer’s blacksmith’s shop at Mauriceville West, and Mr Broadbent’s store at Mauriceville East. The Institute proposes to establish a class for making papier mache articles. A special appeal is to be made for flies and rasps, and those willing to donate such articles are asked to leave, them at the above-mentioned depots. It was decided, on the motion of Mrs Baine, that a further batch of parcels be forwarded to the local soldiers overseas. The competitions were won as follows: —Best bloom, Mrs R, Palmer 1, Miss R. Mortensen 2; one-egg sponge, Mrs G. Wilson and Mrs J. A. Baine (equal) 1. Mrs Broadbent ably entertained the gathering with items. A vote of thanks was passed to the hostesses, and to Miss Nikolaison for the use of hei’ residence.
