CROQUET SEASON CLOSED BY METHODIST CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Methodist Croquet Club closed the season with a number of competitions which resulted as follows: — Half-hour games: Mrs Vaughan beat Mrs Wadham, Mrs Tucker beat Mrs Vaughan, Mrs Wilkins beat Mrs Hodder, Mrs Wadham. beat Mrs Tucker. Angles: Mrs Newbold. Hurry scurry: Mrs Tucker. Hoops: Mrs Wadham. Ladder: Mrs Wadham. During the tea adjournment Mrs Wadham was presented with a club trophy. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs W. Henry Booth, who have been visiting Dannevirke, returned to Hawarden on Tuesday. Captain Ojala; of the Salvation Army headquarters, Woodville, and Mrs Ojala were visitors to Carterton on Tuesday. Returned Services’ Association. Mr A. T. Murray presided over a meeting of the Carterton branch of the Returned Services’ Association last evening. Preparations were made for the annual meeting, to be held on May 18. It was reported that the branch had sold the whole of its quota of poppies, the sum realised being £7O. A vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies who were responsible for the sales this year. Sergeant-Major Laird was thanked for his services as marshal at the Anzac Day parade. Considerable Sickness. There is considerable sickness in Carterton and the surrounding district. Influenza is fairly general, and a few cases of measles are reported. Liberty Loan. A fairly good response is being made to the Liberty Loan at the Carterton Post Office, and during its currency the flag will be kept flying at the Council Chambers. Hockey. The following is the Carterton junior A team to play Sincerity at Carterton on Saturday, at 3 o’clock: —V. Merwood, R. Hopkins, A. Williams, N. Williams, M. Campbell, M. Potter, D. George, B. Lindop, B. Parker, B. Matson and L. Hopkins. REGENT THEATRE ' THRILLING- DRAMA. A thrilling story is told in “Parachute Battalion,” which will be shown tonight. Robert Preston and Nancy Kelly have the chief roles. “The Seven Sinners,” an outstanding comedy will also be shown. The leading characters are portrayed by Marlene Dietrich, John Wayne and Mischa Auer.
