DR, EVATT IN LONDON
CONSIDERABLE IMPRESSION MADE ON BRITISH MINISTERS. PACIFIC WAR PROBLEMS. LRv Telegraph-—Press Association —Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) LONDON, May 6. An Australian Associated Press’s special correspondent says that although it is over early to forecast the results of Dr Evatt’s mission, there are already indications that, following his representations to Mr Churchill and to the War Cabinet, Britain will do something more than a mere gesture to help in the Pacific. Dr Evatt had a long conversation with Mr Churchill and at the weekend attended meetings of the War Cabinet and Pacific Council. He also met many British leaders. He has not been sparing in the use of forcible language, in order to impress members of the Government with Australia’s vital needs at this critical period, and his uncompromising answers to questions at a Ministry of Information Press conference made a deep impression. It is no secret that he is largely concerned with questions of supply, and not the least value of the visit will be a greater mutual understanding between Britain and Australia of each other’s difficulties.
