FREE TEA

GATHERING AT MASTERTON Y.M.C.A. ARMY AND AIR FORCE. Representations of both the Army and the Air Force last evening enjoyed in happy fellowship the free tea provided and served by Messrs C: E. Daniell, Ltd., and their staff at the Y.M.C.A. rooms. The bountiful spread was set out on four choicely decorated tables, and close on 100 men did full justice to the good things provided. Mr J. A. Kennedy, in welcoming the men to the Y.M.C.A., on behalf of the directors, coined a new designation for the four letters (Y.M.C.A.), which were known throughout the world today, and declared they could easily be regarded as a standing invitation: “You Must Come Along.” - Mr E. Esler also expressed the pleasure that he and those associated with him on the staff of Messrs C. E. Daniell, Ltd., had derived in being able to do \ their part towards the enjoyment of those present. The half-minute silence and devotional period were observed and culminated in the hearty singing of “Onward, Christian Soldiers.’ Sergeant Logan, on behalf of the Army, and Flight Sergeant Milliken, Air Force, voiced the thanks of their ' respective comrades to those responsible for the function, and both eulogised the work being accomplished by the Y.M.C.A. and the National Patriotic Council among the mon hr the camps. Miss Pawson, with pianoforte solos, and Mr Esler, with elocutionary items, entertained the company, while Mrs E. ) Jones gave assistance at the piano. After tea etn adjournment was made to the lounge, where a pleasant time was spent in community singing.
