SOCIAL GATHERING

PRESENTATION TO GUNNER.

(“Times-Age” Special.) There was a very large attendance on Thursday evening in the Odd Fellows’ Hall when Gunner John Finney was entertained at a social gathering by the Borough Council. Excellent music was supplied by a local orchestra and a very enjoyable time was spent. The hall was prettily decorated with large bowls of green hydrangeas and autumn foliage by Mrs MurrayAynsley. Mr H. E. Greathead acted as M.C. Mr W. Olsen (Mayor) presented the guest of honour with a wallet, and visiting soldiers in attendtance weie handed cigarettes by the Mayoress. Miss M. Anderson, president of the Borough Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comforts Committee, presented Gunner Finney with a parcel of woollen comforts und his mothel’ with a Victorian posy of pink roses. Supper was served by the Borougn Ladies’ Soldiers’ Comfort Committee.

Personal items, Mrs Handley and her son,. Colin, of Wanganui, have been on a visit to the district and were guests at Liverpool House. \ Mrs D. Murray, Auckland, has returned home after having been the guest of Mrs R. Dixon, Parkville. Mrs Stanchiall, Marton, is the guest of her mother, Mrs Kerr, Bridge Street. , Mrs Nelson, Wanganui, is. the guest of Mrs E. McAnulty, Parkville.
