E.P.S. ORGANISATION

MASTERTON AND DISTRICT

COMMITTEE PREPARATIONS FOR DAYLIGHT TRIAL. CHANGES IN PERSONNEL. A meeting of the Masterton and District E.P.S. central committee was held last night, when many matters affecting rhe organisation were considered. The chairman, Mr T. Jordan, .presided.

Mi* C. R. Mabson was appointed as the E.P.S. representative on the Selection Committee to be set up to deal with the enrolment and allocation of men from 35 to 51 for Home Guard or E.P.S. duties. Controllers were requested to supply Mr Mabson with a list of key men.

Mr W. Kemp said he was placed in an awkward position by the latest Government order, as he would lose many of his wardens for Home Guard service.

“How are we going to have a tryout while this is going on?” asked Mr J. C. D. Mackley. “Exactly,” replied Mr Kemp. “We can do nothing until we have our personnel fixed. This is the first and last essential,” said Mr Jordan, The committee decided ,to inform the controller in charge that it was not the function of the E.P.S. to care for army casualties and that the army must make its own arrangements. It was pointed out that the present district arrangements had neither the equipment, personnel nor the accommodation to handle army casualties. The Dominion Lighting Controller directed that every window not facing the sea must be covered with a blind. Advice was received as to the setting up in Masterton of a unit of the Oil Industry Emergency Precaution Service.

Following on Mr J. H. Cunningham’s suggestion that the rank and file of the E.P.S. personnel should be told what was being done by the organisation, it was agreed that a meeting of the supply personnel should be held, to which the controllers of other committees would be invited to attend. When the personnel was settled a meeting of the whole personnel of the E.P.S. could be called.

It was agreed to adj burn the meeting until Monday night to consider the reports of controllers .upon the organisation prepared .by units for the forthcoming daylight emergency trial.
