President Roosevelt showed reporters a money order for 107 dollars 50 cents, from a man and his wife who have three children and desired to donate half of their family life savings to the war programme, and particularly to help to buy a bomber to blast Japan in repayment for the Pearl Harbour incident. Mr Roosevelt said this was a good illustration qf the public willingness to help the Government finance the vast war undertaking. It is recalled that the White.'House has disclosed that an amazing number of direct contributions are being received. Mr Roosevelt said that 30,008 men, women and children have sent gifts to the Government—many directly to the President —for the purchase of guns, tanks, aeroplanes and other war implements.
