WELFARE LEAGUE

ANNUAL MEETING HELD IN MASTERTON YESTERDAY. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the 'Women’s National Welfare League was held at the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were Mesdames Fletcher (in the chair), R. C. Drummond, S. L. P. Free, S. J. Munn, J. B. Carruthers, W. Andrew, A. W. McKenzie, L. Hunter, Horne, S. Coradine, S. N. Kilgour, Misses Beiliss and Boddington. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames T. Jordan, A. Corskie, G. McCracken, J. Caselberg, R. Whyborn, Misses Guild, Kummer and Vallance (2).

Mrs Fletcher congratulated the president and executive members on the annual report and balance sheet. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: —President, Miss Kummer (re-elected); vicepresidents, Mesdames T. Jordan, G. G. Tolhurst, S. Fletcher, A. W. McKenzie, H. P. Harrisonr, H. E. Pither, R. C. Drummond; hon secretary, Mrs S. N. Kilgour (re-elected); hontreasurer, Mrs S. N. Kilgour (re-elected); hon auditor, Mr N. H. James (re-elected); committee convenors: Mrs H. E. Pither (Work for thb Blind), Mrs J. B. Carruthers (A.N.A. Club), Mrs A. W. McKenzie (Social Welfare), Mrs Kilgour (Lighthouses), Mesdames Drummond and Whyborn and Miss Beiliss (Public Hospital), Mrs H. P. Harrison and Miss Guild (Red Cross Society).

It was decided as a war measure to discontinue providing afternoon tea. Votes of thanks were passed to the Press for reporting the League’s activities; to Mr J. Hunter for printing the Anzac wreath ribbon free of charge, to Mrs Scharnweber for her floral gifts during the year; to the executive members and to the hon auditor.

Bouquets and shoulder sprays were presented to all office bearers. Afternoon tea was served by the president and other members.
