GREYTOWN

RED CROSS SOCIETY — i ANNUAL MEETING. (“Tlmeis-Age” Special.) The third annual meeting of the Grey town branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Red Cross Room on Wednesday evening. Mr Horton (president) occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames E. Maddison and A. Bull, Miss E. Gregor and Mr A. Nisbet. Miss Higginson, Matron of the Greytown Hospital, presented medallions and certificates to members who had gained the same in the recent examinations in first aid, home nursing, hygiene and sanitation. Miss Higginson was accorded a vote of thanks. Mrs G. R. Jury presented the annual report and balance sheet. Mrs' V. Kempton wrote thanking the branch for the letter received during her illness.

The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr A. W. Horton (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mesdames F. C. Bunny, W. J. Knell and Messrs J. F. Thompson and A. Nisbet (re-elect-ed); secretary, Mrs G. R. Jury (reelected); executive, Mesdames H. G. Carter, J. F. Thompson, E. Maddison, W. Everett, V. Kempton and Mjss M. Keltie; sick visitors, Mrs A. Ross and Miss M. Keltie; auditor, Mr J. Kiernan. It was reported that Miss K. Keddell still continues to do very good work with her Junior Red Cross members. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Keddell and also to Mr J. Kiernan for having audited the books. Mr J. F. Thompson complimented the V.A’s. on passing their hygiene and sanitation examination and those who had completed their 60 hours in the hospital. A bonus of £3 3s was made to Mrs G. R. Jury, who at all times carried out her duties as honorary secretary efficiently. Prior to the annual meeting of the Society, Dr Rees Thomas delivered a lecture on the circulation of the blood, and was thanked. GOLF CLUB LINKS TO BE OPENED TOMORROW The official opening of the Greytown Golf Links will take place on Saturday afternoon, when a mixed foursome will be played. Personal. Mrs Wise, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs J. Robb, East Street, has returned to Wellington. TOWN HALL TOMORROW’S PROGRAMME. At the matinee tomorrow at 2 p.m., and in the evening at 8 o’clock will be shown that outstanding air drama “The Power’ and the Glory,” in which Eric Bush and Katrin Rosselle have the leading roles.
