DIMMING OF LIGHTS

ALONG ATLANTIC COAST STATEMENT BY MR STIMSON. NECESSARY AND OVERDUE SAFEGUARD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) » WASHINGTON, April 31. The Secretary for War (Mr H. L. Stimson) told the Press that voluntary control of lighting along the Atlantic sea coast had failed. Therefore the military authorities will enforce dimout regulations. Mr Stimson cited an eyewitness who said the glare of lights from the shore had definitely helped a submarine to sink a ship. Mr Stimson said there could' not be white lights on the beaches if they endangered the safety of sailors.
