IN THE MIDDLE EAST PROBABLE HIT ON ENEMY SHIP. MORE NAZI PLANES SHOT DOWN AT MALTA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) RUGBY, April 28. A R.A.F. Middle East communique states: “Our bombers on Sunday night raided the harbour of Benghazi and enemy landing-grounds at Martuba. Other aircraft operated against camps in the Tmimi area. There was little air activity in the forward area of Cyrenaica on Monday. “Enemy shipping in the Mediterranean was attacked on Sunday night and a probable torpedo hit was scored on a medium-sized vessel. “Two Junkers 88s and one Messerschmitt 109 were shot down by antiaircraft fire at Malta on Monday. It is now learned that three further Junkers were destroyed in Sunday’s raid on Malta. “From all operations two of our aircraft are missing.”

ROUGH RECEPTION GIVEN TO ENEMY AIRCRAFT AT MALTA. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) RUGBY, April 28. Malta’s anti-aircraft guns on Tuesday morning destroyed one enemy bomber and damaged two others, while R.A.F. fighters damaged one bomber and one fighter. Early in the afternoon guns damaged two bombers. There were casualties and damage to civilian property.
