BRIEF SITTING

HOUSE OF REPRESEN I ATIVES. SECRET SESSION TONIGHT. (Dv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. The House of Representatives met for only 40 minutes yesterday, when the Parliamentary session was resumed after an adjournment of just over five weeks. After formal business and tributes of respect to the memory of Mr C. J. Talbot, a former member for Temuka, an adjournment was taken till tonight, when a secret session will be held to enable members to hear and discuss the latest developments in the war situation.

The Prime Minister. Mr Fraser, said it had not been possible for a number of members to be present that day because of alterations in transport timetables. He considered it very desirable that all members should be present al these short sessions so that they could be conversant with the progress of the war, particularly on the present occasion because of the formation oi the Pacific command. He had discussed the matter with the Leader r the Opposition. Mr Holland, and he agreed that it might be desirable after that' afternoon’s sitting to adjourn till tonight. After the ordinary business at the beginning of the sitting the House would then go into secret session. The House rose at 3.10 p.m. till 7.30 tonight.
