EXCHANGE OF CONSULS
BETWEEN NEW ZEALAND & RUSSIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) . WELLINGTON, This Day. “The question of an exchange of consular representatives between New Zealand and Russia is receiving the attention of the Government at the present time,” said the Prime Minister, Mr Fraser, yesterday. “The amount of trade between New Zealand and Russia,” said Mi’ Fraser, “has never been very large, and, therefore, the matter is not one of urgency from that point of view, but any suggestions on the subject from our ally which would lead to a furtherance of our joint war effort will, of course, receive most favourable consideration.” It is understood that South Africa has agreed to receive a consul from the U.S.S.R., but has postponed a decision on the question of sending a consul to Russia till a more favourable opportunity.
The question of direct New Zealand Government representation in Australia is regarded as a matter of greater urgency in New Zealand Parliamentary circles at the present time.
