WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
UPPER PLAIN ACTIVITIES. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute. It was decided to obtain demonstration boxes and prepared talks made available through the Sarah Ann Rhodes Fellowship in Home Science. The first talk of the series “Diet and Health” was read by Mrs Skeet. Charts and pictures were on view to illustrate different points. Mrs F. Clark demonstrated the making of fancy crochet coat hangers.
Competitions were won as follows: — Best bloom: Mrs Dagg, 1; Mrs Clement, 2. Wholemeal loaf: Mrs Skeet, 1; Mrs Clement, 2. A bring and buy stall was quite successful, all goods finding a ready sale. The trading scheme was put into operation, and members were given a shilling each with which to carry out the idea.
The annual meeting of the Wairarapa Federation is to be held at Carterton on Friday, May 1.
