ACTIVE & SUCCESSFUL
R.A.F. IN MIDDLE EAST ’ NON-STOP ENEMY RAIDS ON MALTA. MORE AXIS PLANES DESTROYED. LONDON, April 26. The R.A.F. is persistently active in the Middle East. A Cairo communique states that our fighters shot down three enemy planes over Cyrenaica and severely damaged others. Our fighters also carried out a series of offensive operations and shot up enemy motor transport and encampments. On Friday night our bombers again raided Benghazi Harbour. On the same night a German bomber was shot down in the Western Desert. Our night fighters had a success over the Suez Canal area last night. An enemy raider was intercepted and probably destroyed. From all operations in the Middle East and over Malta five of our planes are missing. Malta has now had 48 hours of practically non-stop air raids. One raider was shot down by anti-aircraft gun fire on Thursday, four were destroyed on Friday and another three yesterday by our fighters and anti-aircraft defences. 1
