PARISHIONERS’ MEETING CHRISTIAN ORDER CAMPAIGN. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the parishioners’ meeting held in the Parish Hall las evening. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs D. H. S. Riddiford, P. Wilton, J. R. Matthews, Mr and Mrs J. W. Holland, Mesdames J. R. Higgs, M. Wakely, F. White and A. Peene. Various reports were read and adopted. The Rev. J. R. Higgs spoke on the national campaign for Christian order. The following officers were elected: Vicard's warden, Mr D. H. S. Riddiford; people’s warden, Mr R. R. P. Hardy; vestry, Mrs K. Bloxam, Messrs A. C. Pearce, C. C. Kenward, P. Smith, K. H. Allen, R. W. Matthews, J. R. Matthews, W. H. Willis, F. White, J. W. Holland, C. J. Nix; auditor, Mr C. W. Ritchie. At the conclusion of,the meeting supper was served by the Ladies’ Guild. Personal. Miss Ngaira Watson celebrated her 21st birthday on Wednesday last. A picture party was held, and later her guests were entertained at her home when a happy time was spent in community singing, games and dancing.
Haunui Croquet Club. A very pleasant afternoon was spent on the Haunui Croquet Club’s lawn, when the honorary members were entertained by the committee members. The first part was devoted to competitions, the prize winners being: Peg, Mrs Kilsby; break, Mrs Watson; golf, Mrs Wilton; angles, Mrs Adamson. Before the presentation of trophies won during the season, the president apologised for the absence of their patroness, Mrs D. Riddiford, also several of the members. She then presented the following trophies: A grade championship, Miss Esma Card; runner-up, Miss M. Nix. Hauunui Cup, B grade championship, Mrs Symons; runner-up, Mrs White. C grade championship, Mrs Symons. Beginner’s trophy, Mrs T» Davis; runner-up, Mrs McNamara. Combined handicap doubles, Miss Esma Card and Mrs White. B grade Yankee singles, Mrs Symons. Sealed handicap, Mrs Rasmussen; Yankee singles, Mrs Wilson. A dainty afternoon tea was then served in the pavilion. The tables were decorated by the president, Miss Eva Card, in autumn tints.
COSY THEATRE “FLOWING GOLD.” The star attraction tonight will be “Flowing Gold,” the thrilling saga of life and love in Texas oilfields with John Garfield and Frances Farmer in thei leading roles. The associate picture will be “Flying Blind,” with Richard Arlen, Jean Parker and Roger Pryor.
