LADIES’ HOCKEY
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION. COMMITTEE MEETING. A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Ladies’ Hockey Association was held in the Y.M.C.A. last evening. It was decided that, subject to the various grounds being pfit into order by that date, and the Referees’ Association being ready to fulfil its functions, the season would be opened on Saturday, May 2. Entries as follows were received for the competitions: — Senior: Excelsior, Kia Ora, College, Carterton and Greytown. Junior: Excelsior, College, Sincerity and Carterton (2). Compared with last year, this was a decrease of two teams in the senior grade and three in the junior. Conditions brought about by the war were directly responsible for the decrease, as Martinborough and Featherston were unable to arrange travelling facilities, while College, with an abundance of players available, had limited their junior entry to one team for the same reason. It was decided to ask the Carterton Club to endeavour to improve the condition of its ground this year. The shortage of referees was stressed and it was decided to appeal to old players and anyone else capable of controlling a game, to join up with the Referees’ Association.
