Mrs L. T. Daniell, Akura, is visiting Christchurch. Mrs E. C. White, Manaia Road, is spending a few days in Wellington. Mrs E. P. Cameron, Hinakura, has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Kent-Johnston, Third Street, Masterton, are staying at Island Bay, Wellington. Mrs C. F. Jones, Invercargill, is staying with her daughter, Mrs R. Stewart, Roberts Road, Masterton. Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in New Zealand, will return to Wellington on Sunday from Auckland. On his way north Sir Harry paid a short, visit io Hamilton. The engagement is announced of Corporal Douglas Robert Miller, Royal New Zealand Air Force, only son of Mr and Mrs J. G. Miller, Masterton, and Norma June, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Clyde Blomfield, Victoria Avenue, Remuera.

One of the oldest of the original settlers of the Manawatu district, Mr Geo. Davison, Senr., of Palmerston North, will attain his 100th year tomorrow, April 25. Mr Davison arrived in New Zealand 79 years ago, and originally took up land in Stokes Valley. Later he removed to the Manawatu district, where he took up a farm in the Kairanga block, which he still holds.

The death occurred on Wednesday night, at his residence, “Ellangowan,” Bulls, of Mr L. M. Taverner, the eldest son of the late Major-General and Mrs Taverner, in his 76th year, After finishing his education at Winchester Agricultural College in England he came to New Zealand and purchased a sheep farm near Bulls. Fie married a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs C. C. Graham, then of Karori and later Dunedin, who survives him. He leaves a family of three sons and two daughters. They are Messrs L. G. Taverner, of Raumai, D. L. Taverner, Mayor of Carterton, and Lieutenant lan Taverner, on active service, and Mrs Lance Moore, Melbourne, and Mrs Ralph Chaffey, Waiau.
