LIBERATION OF PHEASANTS
POSITION IN THE WAIRARAPA. The liberation of pheasants in the Wairarapa was a matter discussed at last night’s meeting of the North Wairarapa Committee of the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. In reply to Mr R. V. Mason, the secretary, Mr H. W. Dale, said a motion passed in 1938 that no further pheasants should be liberated in the Wairarapa had not been rescinded. Mr Mason: “Then why have pheasants been liberated in this district'! I understand that 40 or more birds were sent to the secretary recently. Mr Dale explained that the pheasants were not asked for but were sent by the Wellington Society for liberation. Mr Mason: “Then the council is usurping the power of the committee and if this is the case, why have a committee?” The meeting decided to rescind the 1938 motion regarding the liberation of pheasants and agreed that the branch should take all the pheasants it could procure.
