COST OF PARK
A COUNCILLOR DISAPPOINTED. ESTIMATE EXCEEDED BY £lOO. Stating that the year’s work was considered quite satisfactory, Councillor G. D. Wilson, chairman of the Park Committee, reporting to the Masterton Borough Council at its meeting last night, said the gross expenditure in respect to the Park was £2143, as compared with an estimated expenditure of £2047. Councillor G. W. Morice said he was disappointed t’o notice that the cost of the Park had exceeded the estimate by £lOO. The present was a time to economise.
Councillor H. E. Gardner said he was not in favour of letting the Park go back for the sake of £lOO. “Visitors are charmed with it,” observed the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan. Councillor W. White said he was more than pleased at the very low cost of the Park. The Mayor pointed out that a sum of £1683 had been budgeted fox’ foxwages whereas the actual payment was £1746, an increase of £63. Councillor 1 Wilson: “We found it necessary to put on another man to do the work.”
