The public are reminded that a public lecture will be given by Mi’ Hely, 8.C0m., tonight in the Municipal Building at 7.30 o’clock.

Badminton. The St. Matthew’s Badminton Club has decided to carry on its activities as usual this year. The officers are. President, the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. A clerical cadet in the Air Department, Basil Francis O’Connor, appeared before Mr Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday, charged with failing to report for military service. Replying in the negative when he was asked by the magistrate if he wanted to have a chance of joining the army, he was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment.

Iron Rations. Holding several 2in nails in his mouth while assisting his father, Mr P. Colquhoun, in carpentry operations, Ray Colquhoun, aged 14, a postal employee, Whangarei, swallowed one of them. Feaj’s that an operation would become 'necessary did not materialise and four X-ray examinations have established that the nail is now resting in a position where it is not likely to cause any trouble. The boy has resumed his duties and says that he is feeling no effects.
