CARTERTON

MEMORIAL SERVICE ARRANGEMENTS FOR ANZAC DAY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual service in connection with Anzac Day will be held at the P. and A. Society’s showgrounds, Carterton, on Saturday next, at 2.30 p.m. The general public are advised to be seated in the grandstands not later than 2.15 p.m. Members of the armed forces will take up their positions in the oval fronting the grandstands. Order of service sheets will be distributed and an address will be given by Brigadier T. Wilder, D. 5.0., M.C. At 1.30 p.m. a service will be held at the Cenotaph in Memorial Square, where wreaths will be placed and the flag hoisted from the R.S.A. flagstaff. Members of the Wairarapa Returned Services Association (Carterton branch) are requested to parade at the Band Room, Holloway Street, Carterton, on Saturday, 25th March. Medals. Decorations and Poppies are to be worn. The Anzac service will be held on the Carterton Showgrounds. Members of the Carterton Silver Band and the Wairarapa Pipe Band, which will include several members of the Military Forces, are assiduously practising for the Anzac Day service.

Carterton Post Office. On Saturday, April 25, 1942, Anzac Day, the Post Office will be closed in ail branches except the telephone exchange. . . Postmen’s and rural deliveries will not be made. Public Library. Members are reminded that the annual meeting of the Carterton Public Library will take place at the Library, Holloway Street, tonight at 8 o’clock. Personal.

In the headmaster’s report to the annual meeting of householders at the Carterton School Committee it was mentioned that Messrs F. Crane, lan Mackie, Leslie Adams and Jack Brown were on active service overseas.

Mr Ken Hodder, who underwent an operation at the Masterton Hospital, is progressing satisfactorily. Mr Joseph Tinsley, whose death occurred at the Palmerston Hospital on Monday, was very well known in Carterton, where he spent most of his boyhood days. He was a valued member of the Carterton Football Club and donned the moroon jersey in many important club fixtures, and also wore; the green jersey as a Wairarapa representative. Deceased was also at one time a valued member of the Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade. He was a first-class musician and his playing for dances will be well remembered by many residents of Carterton and district. The funeral took place at Palmerston North today.

The Rev. A. H. Yoyce, who was in the Japanese occupied territory of New Guinea when war broke out with Japan, is a visitor to Carterton and is the guest of Mi’ and Mrs J. Udy, Rexwood Street. He will give a lecture on missionary work in New Guinea at the Methodist Church tomorrow night. He was 16 years at Bougainville prior to being evacuated from the island.

REGENT THEATRE “ROAD SHOW.” The laugh parade of 1942, “Road Show,” will be shown tonight with Adolphe Monjou, Carole Landis and John Hubbard, featuring the same stars as “Turnabout.”
