AWARDS FOR GALLANTRY. FLIGHT LIEUTENANT GETS D.F.C. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, April 20. A New Zealander, Flight Lieutenant Alexander Frame, has been awarded the D.F.C. The citation states that Frame has completed a large number of operational sorties. Once, operating from Britain, he carried out a patrol in search of five enemy ships, entailing a flight lasting for 13Jhours. “Since then,” the citation adds, “he had performed excellent work in the Mediterranean zone, and, during the evacuation of Greece, he operated with great success and was responsible for the safe evacuation by air of more than 200 personnel. He has throughout displayed great skill, cour&ge, and devotion to duty.”
AIR FORCE MEDAL. AWARDED TO SERGEANT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Official advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that the Air Force Medal has been awarded to Sergeant Daniel Paul Phillips, R.N.Z.A.F. (Next-of-kin, mother, Mrs D. P. Phillips, 63 Ellice Street, Wellington). Sergeant Phillips, who was born in Riverton in September, 1911, was educated at St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, where he took a prominent part in athletics. He later played senior Rugby for St. Patrick’s Old Boys, Wellington, and, as a member of the Kiwi Amateur Athletic Club, was one of Wellington’s most prominent athletes, specialising in the hop, step and jump. He applied for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force at the outbreak of war, and after training in New Zealand left for the United Kingdom in the middle of 1940.
