BRITISH PRISONERS

NO INFORMATION GIVEN BY JAPAN. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) LONDON, April 20. A War Office spokesman said that the Japanese made no effort to furnish the British Government with the names of members of the Services or civilians captured in Singapore -and elsewhere in the Far East. The protecting Power, Argentina, was doing its utmost to establish contact with our people, but so far had been unsuccessful.

A representative of the Red Cross war prisoners’ department said the Japanese did not allow International Red Cross delegates to visit any prisoners’ camps outside Japan. It seemed they wanted to clean up all occupied territory before allowing the Red Cross in.
