CENTRAL SCHOOL

ACTIVITIES OF PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION REPORT FOR TWO YEARS. MUCH VALUABLE WORK. The activities of the Masterton Central School Parents’ Association, according to the biennial report, have again been very successful, both from the social and financial aspects.

The committee, the report states, had remained in close touch with requirements, and all requests for sports or drill gear, seating accommodation, Christmas tree funds, travelling expenses for football representatives, etc., had been both speedily and readily met. The financial position of the association was very healthy. The main work of the committee had been the running of the Central School Old Time dances. These functions had maintained increasing popularity thereby greatly increasing the funds of the association. The committee had worked very well and most harmoniously. Special credit was due to the ladies’ committee, whose work had at times been most arduous but always cheerfully carried out.

The purchase of a visual talking education machine, which the committee had in view, had on account of the war been held over. The sum of £ 100 had been set aside for this purpose. It was further decided that the committee should make for its immediate objective a two-chair dental clinic. A sum of money had been placed aside for this purpose. It was hoped that the clinic would be operating early this year, but this scheme, also on account of the war, would probably be held up indefinitely. The association had decided to take full responsibility for the cost of upkeep of the school recreation grounds, thereby relieving the School Committee of these costs. Since the last biennial meeting the association had co-opted the services of Mr and Mrs S. Smith, Mr and Mrs C. Malmo, Mrs C. Wilmshurst and Mr P. Reynolds. These new members had been of great assistance and had given freely of their services. Mr and Mrs A. Dixon, who resigned during the year, had rendered valuable service to the association. The chairman, Mr W. Emerson, would not be seeking re-election.
