The Interhouse Dance. In reply to a complaint by a correspondent regarding the charges being made by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association for its dance to be held tonight. Mr R. Costello, secretary of the association, states: “This dance is being held as a special effort to assist the 1942 Patriotic Fund Appeal and the high prices that the correspondent complains about are only 6d more than usual, and for the extra prices beingcharged tonight, the public has the pleasure of dancing to the music of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band.” Grow More Wheat Campaign, On another page in this issue is an advertisement of a meeting to be held in Masterton next Wednesday in connection with the campaign to grow more wheat. Both present and prospective wheat growers are requested to attend. It is understood that the speakers, will be Messrs W. W. Mulholland, Dominion President of the Farmers’ Union, and R. B. Tennent, Director of Primary Production. They will deal specifically with such matters as petrol and labour supply. These are subjects which naturally must greatly concern growers who are planning to sow an increased area of wheat this year and it is to be hoped that all will, take the opportunity to hear and question the speakers next Wednesday. ;
Generosity Appreciated. The annual report of the Wairarapa Centre of the Red Cross Society states: “Owing to the large volume of work being transacted by the Centre, it was necessary to obtain a permanent depot in the business area of Masterton. Through the generosity of Mr C. H. Spiers, the Centre has been granted the use of a large room in Church Street, rent free, for the duration of the war., A telephone has been installed and furniture loaned to provide a little comfort for those members of the Society who are doing the work of the Centre.” Thanks were also extended to the secretary, treasurer, assistant secretary, Centre commandant, members of the executive and others for assistance given during the year. A soldiers’ dance will be held in the Epiphany Hall, High Street, Kuripuni, on Tuesday night next.
