WOMEN’S DIVISION PAHAUTEA BRANCH. ("Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held on Thursday in the Pahautea Hall, when Mrs Ross presided over a good attendance of members.
Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames D. C. Collins and R. Benton.
The points competition for the year was won by Mrs S. Grant. Letters were read from local soldiers overseas in appreciation of parcels sent for Christmas. It was decided to meet the Ladies’ Guild next month at Kahutara in connection with the making of camouflage nets. Four new members were enrolled. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs W. A. Ross; vice-presi-dents, Mrs Parkers, Miss Frew, Mrs Welch, Mrs Sadler; secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. Connell; delegate to Provincial Council, Mrs S. Grant; advisory members, Mrs McKay and Mrs Ness; hostesses, Mesdames Parker and Ness. League of Mothers.
Mrs Arch Clark presided over a good attendance of members at the April meeting, held in the Parish Hall on Thursday afternoon. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Blair, McKenna and Carter. Two new members were welcomed. Mrs Clark mentioned that childrens’ knitted garments made by some of the members had been sent to Wellington to be forwarded to children in England. The Rev. J. R. Higgs gave an interesting and inspiring address on “Hong Kong in Pre-War and Present Times.” The hostesses were Mesdames H. Cundy, C. Buck and A. S. Kilsby. Euchre Tournament. There was a good attendance at the euchre tournament held in the Service Club on Thursday night. The first prize was won by Mrs A. W. Edwards. Mrs Watson and Mrs Elder tied for second place. Mrs Holland and Mr Lowell won the lucky number competition. A further competition was won by Mrs Lowell. Citizens’ United Service. The Citizens’ United War Time Service is to be held on Sunday evening when the Rev. H. S. Kings, of Masterton, will be the preacher. The combined choirs will lead in singing popular hymns. COSY THEATRE “BACK STREET.” An outstanding love story, “Back Street,” will be shown tonight, the chief roles being taken by Charles Boyer and Margaret Sullavan.
