FLAX WOOLPACKS
DEMAND GREATLY INCREASED. SHORTAGE OF PHORMIUM IN PROSPECT. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) FOXTON, This Day. At the annual meeting of New Zealand Woolpacks, Ltd, a maximum dividend of 4 per cent was declared. The chairman of directors, Mr A. W. Press, stated that with the supplies, of Manila and Java hemp cut off, the , demand for the phormium pack had greatly increased. The shortage of green leaf was causing some concern and despite the planting' scheme New Zealand was faced with the prospect of a shortage in 1943 and 1944. It was anticipated that on this account 500,000 packs would be produced in 1942, against a possible demand for 900,000. An appeal was made to owners of flax conservation and expansion areas. A tribute was paid to the Hon D. G. Sullivan for his assistance. The year was considered to have been most satisfactory.
