MILITARY TATTOO
AIR FORCE BAND VISITING MASTERTON ATTRACTIONS DURING WEEKEND. BIG DISPLAY AT SOLWAY TOMORROW. A feast of band music is promised in Masterton during the weekend, combined with a military tattoo at the Solway Showgrounds tomorrow. The band music will be played by the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, under the conductorship of Flight Lieutenant H. Gladstone Hill. The band will play at the Solway Showgrounds tomorrow afternoon in the course of the tattoo and will give concerts on Sunday at the Park in the afternoon and in the Regent Theatre in the evening. On its arrival from the south tomorrow morning the band will march to Queen Street. Something new to Masterton residents will be seen at the Showgrounds tomorrow afternoon, when a military tattoo wiil he presented. All units will be participating. The tattoo will commence at 2 p.m. Many interesting displays will be given. The proceeds will be in aid of the Patriotic Fund. Entirely new arrangements have been made for the handling of traffic proceeding to and from the Showgrounds tomorrow. Cars from town will proceed via Short Street to a parking area in York Street, where a vacant section has been set aside for the purpose. Buses and taxis will proceed via High Street and Fleet Street to the intersection of Fleet and York streets, where they will drop their passengers and return to town via York and Pownall streets. Cars from the south of Masterton will park in the old entrance to the Showgrounds in High Street. No cars or bicycles will be allowed in the Showgrounds nor will cars be permitted to be parked in street approaches to the Showgrounds except under the direction of traffic officers. Members of the E.P.S. and the military will direct traffic.
SUNDAY NIGHT CONCERT AT REGENT THEATRE. The programme to be presented by the Band of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at the Regent Theatre, commencing at 8 o’clock on Sunday night, is as follows:—March, “The Stars and Stripes For Ever” (Sousa); overture, "William Tell” (Rossini); songs (a), “The Lady of Spain” (Tolchard Evans), (b) "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair” (Stephen Foster); waltz, “The Skaters” (Waldteufel. arr. Sgt. Thurkettle); cornet duo, "Tire Swallow's Serenade” (MacKenzie), Corporal H. C. W. Geard and Bandsman R. J. Loper; violin solo, “Czardas” (Monti), Bandsman A. Munro, occompanied by Sgt. Thurkettle at the piano; xylophone solo, “On the Track” (Simpson), Warrant Officer J. H. Hardwick; hymn, “Deep Harmony” (Handel Parker, arr. F/Lt. Gladstone Hill); patriotic number, "Britannia” (arr. Corp. F. A. Callaway); rhapsody, "Slavonic Rhapsody” (Friedmann); novelty, “Our Task” (arr. Corp. F. A. Callaway); clarionet solo, “Concertino” (Weber, arr. Sgt. Thurkettle), Bandsman J. A. McCaw; patriotic song, “Lords, of the Air” (North and Burnaby), Bandsman J. G. Jefferies (with band accompaniment); characteristic piece, “The Parade of the Tin Soldiers” (Jessel); march, "Through Bolts and Bars" (Urbach).
