MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.
WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY ANNUAL MEETING. APPRECIATION EXPRESSED TO MANY HELPERS. There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Masterton Y.M.0.A., held in the association’s rooms last night. Mr E. M. Hodder, chairman of directors, presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report, Mr Hodder said the association’s membership had been well maintained during the year. He stressed the need of maintaining physical training classes to the limit of the association’s ability, as under war conditions they were inclined to overlook activities on behalf of youths. Mr Hodder acknowledged the valuable community work done by ladies, whose activities were most important. A tremendous amount of work was being done by the association in many avenues connected with the men of the fighting services. Expenditure had been kept to a low basis.‘Appreciation was expressed of the public's assistance, which was forthcoming without any appeal having been made. In particular the assistance given by the Trust Lands Trust, T. G. Macarthy Trust, Masterton Borough Council and the Ladies’ Auxiliary was more than welcome.
Mr Hodder was handed an envelope containing a handsome donation from the Ladies’ Auxiliary. On behalf of the association he expressed thanks to the auxiliary for its fine work and cheerful and willing service. Men of the fighting services had also acknowledged their indebtedness to them. Mr Hodder coupled with the Ladies’ Auxiliary the ladies of the community who were all doing great work and he expressed the appreciation of the community of what they were doing. Two new members, Messrs T. A. Russell and J. Y. Douglas were elected to the directorate.
Mr J. Paltridge, representing the National Council of the Y.M.C.A. said the council was very interested in the work being done in this area. He eulogised the work of the ladies and said it was of value in keeping up the morale of the men in New Zealand.
Mr D. Campbell, the newly-appoint-ed field secretary for the district was also present. t Votes of thanks were passed to office bearers and other helpers. Appreciation was expressed of the excellent work rendered by three retiring directors, Messrs E. Coleman, G. Masters and J. D. O’Connor. Special reference was made to the sterling services given during the past 15 years by Mr Masters, to whom the association was greatly indebted. The association could not overstate its debt of appreciation, said Mr Hodder, and the community, too, was much indebted to Mr Masters for his work.
The secretary was instructed to write to Mr Masters expressing the association’s appreciation. Items were given by Mrs Keltic, Miss Beale and Mr William C. Mann. Mr Miller Hope played the accompaniments.
Supper was served by the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
