An afternoon communique states: “In the Manila Bay zone intermittent artillery duels between our forts and enemy batteries continue. Reports from northern Luzon advise of successful raids by small bodies of our troops against lightly-held enemy positions in the mountains. In Mindanao one of our raiding parties ambushed an enemy truck column, inflicting heavy casualties. Our troops suffered no losses. “Additional details have been received of the sinking of an enemy light cruiser of the Kuma class near the southern tip of Cebu Island several .days ago. Our light torpedo-boat, after sinking the hostile vessel, managed to escape after repeated salvoes had been fired by an enemy destroyer, which attempted to come to the rescue of the cruiser.” BRITISH PLANES LOSSES AT TRINCOMALEE. (Received This Day, 9.50 a.m.) COLOMBO, April 15. . In reference to Mr Churchill’s statement in the House of Commons on April 13, about the British plane losses in the Trincomalee counter-attack against a Japanese naval force, it is now disclosed that we lost five planes, while many of those which returned damaged are already back in service.
