WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
MEETING AT OPAKI. COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Opaki Women’s Institute was held at the home of the president. During the afternoon, Mrs Beetham gave a short demonstration on spinning and members took turns at using the- wheel. The president and the secretary were appointed delegates to the Wairarapa Federation meeting to be held at Carterton. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: —Best bloom: Miss lorns 1, Mrs Malmo 2, Mrs Wyeth 3. Article from flourbag: Mrs N. Wyeth 1, Miss lorns 2, Mrs Dagg 3. Cookery: Mrs Jaine 1. It was reported that at the patriotic shop at the Shelter on April 29, the Institutes of the district would be in charge.
KOPUARANGA MEETING. : DELEGATES APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Kopuaranga Women’s Institute was held yesterday, Mrs W. J. Cottle presiding over a large attendance of members. The treasurer reported a satisfactory credit balance and accounts for 14s 6d for soldiers’ parcels were passed. A letter was received from a soldier in the Middle East thanking members for a parcel. Mesdames W. J. Cottle and W. Reside were appointed delegates to attend the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Federation to be held at Carterton on May 1. It was decided that the goods donated for the Bring and Buy stall be sent to the Patriotic Shop in Masterton. The results of the potato growing competition were not all to hand but a substantial increase on last year's yield was indicated. A box lecture, supplied by Massey College on home dyeing proved most interesting and was much appreciated by members. The results of the competitions were: Best bloom, Miss M. Wright 1, Miss M. Clarke 2, Mrs Wright 3; sultana cake, Miss M. Wright 1, Mrs Reside 2, Mrs W. J. Cottle 3. The sultana cakes were packed to be sent to the Mission for Seamen. KAIPARORO. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Kaiparoro Women’s Institute a jug covers competition was won by Miss 0. Falkner. It was decided that fourteen jug covers be sent in to the Eketahuna Red Cross Society. A competition for the best flower was won by Mrs G. A. Hansen. An enjoyable game was arranged by Miss E. Dick.
