GREYTOWN

RED CROSS SOCIETY ( FIRST AID LECTURES. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Red Cross Society has been performing excellent service to the community during the present war period and has kept itself abreast of the times in every effort to assist the prosecution of the campaign against the Axis forces. The classes will commence their first aid lectures in the Red Cross Society’s rooms on Wednesday evening next. Personal Items. Mrs L. Willis returned to Napier yesterday after a week spent in Greytown. Mr F. C. Morgan (Hupenui) is a patient in the Greytown Hospital following injuries sustained in an accident. He is making good progress towards recovery. The friends of Mr F. Brooks will be pleased to hear that he is making steady progress towards recovery in, the Greytown Hospital. \ Major H. G. Cartel- and Captain F. Dewhurst, of the Greytown Battalion of the Home Guard, returned to Greytown today after having attended an army school of instruction in antitank warfare. Mr Kelvin Thompson, Wellington, who is staying with his parents, Mr and Mrs J. F. Thompson, Kuratawhiti Street, will join the R.N.Z. Air Force this week. He was recently the recipient of a presentation from the Public Works Department. . Oat Stacks. Three oat stacks owned by Mr R. Bassett and stacked by Mr F. Brooks fifteen months ago, were cut last week, and were found to be perfectly dry. Soldiers’ Dance. The soldiers’ dances are still popular in Greytown and those who attend the dance in the Odd Fellows’ Hall this evening are assured of an enjoyable time. Croquet Club. The Greytown Ladies’ Croquet Club will hold an “honorary members’ afternoon” on Saturday, weather permitting.

TOWN HALL "BACK STREET.” Tomorrow at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. there will be shown “Back Street,” the outstanding story by Fannie Hurst, in which Charles Boyer, Margaret Sullavan and Frank McHugh have the leading roles.
