NAZI TANK ATTACK

ON SOUTH-WESTERN FRONT SMASHED BY RUSSIANS. IN TEN-DAY BATTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, April 9. The German tank attack, on the south-western front, stated to be the biggest since the Battle of Moscow and lasting for ten days, has been smashed by the Russians, says a Kuibyshev message. A German officer captured on the north-western front revealed that 139 German troop-carrying planes were destroyed in three days. The Lake Ilmen area is a cemetery for Junkers 525, he said. Other prisoners stated that these heavy aircraft had been hastily transferred from France and North Africa to relieve Staraya Russa. The “Red Star” declared: “The initiative is firmly in Russian hands. Who but scared intellectuals can doubt that the spring will bring us new victories. We are awaiting the spring fully armed.”
