PATRIOTIC APPEAL
CONTRIBUTIONS FROM EVERYONE DESIRED. (Contributed) “John Bull'' declares that it would bo a disaster of the first magnitude if this district raised its quota for the 1942 National Patriotic Appeal when, at the same time, more than half of the adult population failed to respond to that appeal. “John Bull,” nevertheless, is firmly convinced that the district quota will be raised by direct appeal not later than April ‘3O, and in acknowledging the generous donations thus far contributed to the appeal by such a small number of the public, is equally convinced that each one of those remaining, who have not so far contributed, will rise to the occasion and give at least according to their means. “John Bull” stresses that each one of us must be spurred' on to still greater effort and must grasp and hold with sure and strong hands the opportunity won for us by the valour of our armed forces and by the long and bitter vigil of the Navy and Air Force, which for almost three years has fought to keep open the ocean highways, the highways upon which New Zealand depends so much.
