WASTE PAPER SALVAGE
BRITAIN'S NATIONAL CAMPAIGN. The national waste-paper salvage contest to stimulate collection in every part of Britain of paper for use in the manufacture- of munitions has been a conspicuous success. No fewer than 1234 cities, towns, and villages partook and the total amount of paper salvaged was 94,421 tons. With the addition of collections made by non-competing local authorities, the grand total for January was more than 100,000 tons — a record salvage effort. The conclusion of the contest does not mean that the vitally important task of saving waste paper is ended. On the contrary, there is an urgent need at munition factories for everincreasing supplies. •_ of this potential war material. The collection of waste paper is therefore 'proceeding with diligence.
