CARTERTON

EASTER BUSINESS SPLENDID TRADE REPUTATION. (“Times-Age” Special.) Easter passed quietly in Carterton. The shops did good business prior to closing for the holidays, many people from other towns making their purchases locally because of the fact that prices for a great many lines were cheaper in Carterton than in other centres. Visitors from Wellington. Wanganui and Palmerston North referred to the reasonable prices ruling in Carterton, many lines being obtainable at lower prices than those ruling in the cities. Fair prices, square dealing and fresh stocks is a trade trinity which has earned for Carterton a very high reputation. Football Giants. While Carterton, owing to the war, will not be able this season to put in a football team in keeping with its past high reputation and brilliant record, it is hoped to keep the game alive until those footballers who are in service in the New Zealand forces are able to resume their former occupations. Carterton does not possess players of the brilliance of Bill McKenzie. Ted McKenzie, Bert McKenzie,- Jack McKenzie, Bill Irvine, Keith Reid. “Tiny” McMinn, Alby Desmond, “Lofty” Armstrong, “Art” Cadwallader, or Harry Cadwallader, but is making every effort to build up their young players, and give them the opportunity of proving whether they are equal to the calibre of those famous players who put Carterton on the football map of New Zealand. There may yet come a day when Carterton will again possess the best club set of forwards in New Zealand as' it did in the palmy days of the McKenzies, McMinn and the Armstrongs. Personal Items.
