NEGRO SOLDIERS
INCREASED OPPORTUNITIES IN FIGHTING FORCES. PROMISED BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) WASHINGTON, April 5. President Roosevelt, in a letter to the Fraternal Council of Negro Churches, in which he thanked them for their vigorous efforts to eliminate discrimination based on race, creed and colour, added, “I have directed the armed forces to take numerous steps to open opportunities for the negroes in the fighting forces, and also other plans are under consideration which will increase the participation ‘Of negroes.”
