INSULTING DEMANDS
ADDRESSED TO RUSSIA BV JAPAN ACCORDING TO CHUNGKING NEWSPAPERS. EVACUATION OF AIR BASES & MOVE FROM BORDER. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) NEW YORK, April 6. Humiliating demands have been served on the Soviet Union by the new Japanese Ambassador, Mr Sato, according to Chungking newspapers. The demands are reported to be: — 1. Withdrawal of Russian troops 2. Evacuation of strategic air bases. The newspapers say that these demands are clearly insulting and will be contemptuously rejected by M. Stalin. The Rome radio says that the Premier of Manchukuo has issued a statement saying that the troops on the northern frontier of Manchukuo are being reinforced.
