FREE TEA
ENTERTAINMENT OF SOLDIERS. On Sunday afternoon there was again a large attendance of men of theservices at the Y.M.C.A. when the ladies of St. Matthew’s Church provided a free tea. Nothing had been spared to make everything attractive and the fare daintily set out on the tables was most appetising, Easter season specialties being made available to the evident enjoyment of all. Representing the Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors, Mr G. Masters welcomed the men and introduced the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich who in turn voiced the pleasure it gave the ladies of his church to do something for them. The songs contributed by Miss Beulah Hirst and elocutionary items by Mrs Robert Miller were much appreciated and encored. The piano accompaniments were played by Miss P. Shearer and her assistance at the community sing was also enlisted.
The proceedings opened with the singing of a vers.e of the National Anthem. The usual devotional period was observed. Sergeant L. Pither thanked the ladies, the Y.M.C.A., and Patriotic Council for their continued interest on behalf of the men.
