Mrs H . Drummond. Gisborne, is spending a few days in Masterton. Miss N. Kendall, Wellington, is the guest of Miss Williams, Victoria Street, Masterton. The engagement is announced of Margaret Ruth (Peggy), eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. H. French, "Beauley,” Masterton, to Eric Richard, son of Mrs and the late Mr- J. E. Kjestrup, Masterton. Leading Aircraftman Hugh Wyatt Chadwick, who recently returned from Singapore, and who is accompanied by his wife, is spending leave with his mother, Mrs E. I. Chadwick, Kent House, Colombo Road, Masterton. The King has given approval that the Australian Prime Minister, Mr J. W. Curtin, and Mr A. W. Fadclen, member of the Advisory War Cbuncil of Australia, and a former Prime Minister, should be members of the Privy Council. The death has occurred of Mr W. J. Treadwell, one of the leading legal practitioners in Wanganui, aged 74 years. A son of the Rev. James Treadwell, former minister of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Wanganui, Mr Treadwell was educated at Wellington College, and qualified as a barrister and solicitor in May, 1890. At Mauriceville West on Saturday the funeral took place of Mr Andres Christian Jacobsen. The services at the church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. D. McNeur. A large number of floral tributes covered the casket. The pall-bearers were Messrs E. Mortensen, A. Goodgame. J. Duncan, R. Smart, V. Harrod and C. Grieves. The funeral of the late Mr Arthur George Coleman took place at Masterton this morning. The services at Hyde's Chapel and at the graveside were conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich. The pallbearers were Messrs J. V. Dolan. H. M. Boddington, S. Fletcher and A. Marsh (representing the South African War Veterans), and C. Pickering and A. G. Rabbits (representing the R.5.A.).. The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr W. L. Edmanson, of Kilbirnic, Wellington. Mr Edmanson was born in Victoria, Australia, in 1860. In 1912 he came to New Zealand and set up business in Wellington. His chief interest in life was the Esperanto movement. He founded two clubs in Melbourne before he came to New Zealand, and he was one of the founders of the Wellington Esperanto Society. He was the first president of the Wellington Esperanto Club, and was an ex-president of the New Zealand Esperanto Association. He was a special examiner in Esperanto in New Zealand.
