CARTERTON

I BOWLING KELLY CUP MATCH. (“Times-Age” Special.) The final game for the Kelly Cup was played on the Carterton green yesterday when Messrs White and Davis, of the Masterton Park Club, met Messrs Colson and Billington (substitute for Mr Daysh, who was unable to play owing to illness). The Carterton pair eventually won by 21/1,3. The ladies’ club will hold a progressive pairs tournament during the Easter holidays. Three Carterton rinks today left respectively for Nelson, Wanganui and Palmerston North to take part in Easter tournaments in those centres. Foui’ Carterton rinks will play at Martinborough on Monday. BONDS FOR BOMBERS A SPLENDID RESPONSE. Carterton Post Office officials were very busy yesterday disposing of bonds for bombers and at the close of the day bonds to the value of £2387 had been sold. Carterton’s total is now approximately £9OOO. Today is the last day of the appeal and it is expected that the total will be considerably increased. School Committee. The monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee will be held on Wednesday, April 8 instead of on Easter Monday. Personal Items, Miss Valerie Jackson and Miss Juliet Sherratt, of Gisborne, who have been staying in Wellington for a few days,

are visiting Carterton. Mrs Howard E. Jackson, who has been visiting Auckland, has returned home. The Mayor, Mr D. L. Taverner, last night presided over a meeting of residents held in the Dalefield Dairy Company’s building, when a presentation was made to Able Seaman Noel Jensen, who is on leave. The Mayor referred to the part the Navy was taking in the war and said that their guest was a Carterton-born boy and they were proud of him. He wished Able Seaman Jensen a safe return to New Zealand after the war. He asked Able Seaman Jensen to accept from the residents of Carterton a razor and a hold-all, and a parcel of wool-, len garments from the League of Mothers. Mrs H. Hodder, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, presented Able Seaman Jensen with a parcel of woollen garments, and in doing so wished him a safe return. Able Seaman Jensen suitably returned thanks and said that he would alwyas remember the kindness of the people of Carterton.

Arrangements and hours for the transaction of business at the Carterton Post Office during the Easter holiday period are as follow: —Good Friday: Closed in all branches except the telephone exchange. Ticehurst. Dental Treatment. Parents will appreciate the fact that after the Easter holidays the nurse in charge of the Carterton District High School Dental Clinic will be prepared to take for treatment any child under school age. Appointments may be arranged with the nurse. This arrangement applies to the Carterton and District School Clinic. Dance at Dalefield. The Matarawa-Dalefield Women’s Institute will hold a dance in the Dalefield Hall on Monday night. Members of the armed forces will be admitted free. New Books in Library.
