DROWNED IN FIJI
NEW ZEALAND OFFICER. IN COURSE OF MANOEUVRES IN BUSH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) SUVA, March 31. Lieutenant G. McL. Blyth, N.Z.E.F., was drowned in the course of bush manoeuvres. When attempting to cross a river he got into difficulties and disappeared round a bend of the river. A sergeant searched for him and was himself lost for some time. A party yesterday. recovered Lieutenant Blyth’s body jammed in some rocks further downstream. Lieutenant Blyth was well known in Wellington. He was a keen Territorial and served with the special force which went to Samoa more than 10 years ago. Shortly after the outbreak of war he served with the Territorial Force in Wellington and elsewhere, including a period as a warrant officer with the Taranaki Regiment. He later went to Suva. He was a good Rugby player, and while in Adelaide played for South Australia.
Lieutenant Blyth is survived by his wife, who is a daughter of Judge G. L. Shepherd, Chief Judge of the Native Land Court, and family.
